Own a colour!

This is possibly the most random thing to land in my inbox for some time but it’s Valentine’s Day and it’s for a good cause, right? PURPLE RONNIE, remember him!?

She’s Angela and style’s her thing
Her fame is on the rise
She’s Ireland’s fashion go-to girl
And fabulous in my eyes!

If you love this poem and the inspiring words you can get one for your lover, or your mother or whoever you want to make feel special. PLUS, a world first, you can also gift their loved-ones an actual colour for them to own, through Facebook.com/OwnAColour, for a minimum donation of £1 – an initiative in aid of UNICEF.

Better late than never, you can gift someone a colour and a personalised poem!! If you’ve forgotten your other half, get on it immediately. It’s certainly a better cause than Hallmark! x

Chase your passion

This makes me smile. Coz I don’t got no pension but I have passion in my belly!

Who says fashion folk have no sense of humour?! I salute the French editor for this ballsy video to re-launch Vogue.fr Can you imagine Anna Wintour shaking her skinny ass to this?!

Embrace messy hair

There’s something very sexy about matted, messy, tangled hair. I know they say a man should be able to run his fingers through your hair, but after a shot of ‘Dust It’ or whatever your mattifying poison, it’s unlikely that he would get very far. So what. It looks impossibly beautiful and suggests a care free, relaxed attitude that makes up for it’s squeeky feel!

All my favourite beauty icons have hair that looks lived-in and loved. Almost like vintage clothing, there’s a bit of a story there, a days worth of lessons and laughs and, if you’re lucky, a little tumble! The more worn and fluffy, unkempt and scruffy the more attractive as far as I’m concerned. Think Alison Mosshart, Charlotte Gainsborough, Mary Kate Olsen, even Alexa Chung; it doesn’t matter if they’re dolled up to the nines in Valentino they look very touchable and low maintainance!

That’s the ironic thing, sometimes messy isn’t always easy, sometimes flawless isn’t always natural. It takes time and effort to perfect bed-head. And product, that’s important too. My favourite is Surf Spray from Bumble Bumble, partly because I heard Cameron Diaz used it (I used to adore back when she was in The Mask; before she swapped surf Spray for Board and got a little too muscly for my liking).

Anyway, you need Surf Spray or any other water-based salt product to add grit and texture. Rough dry your hair, throw your head upside down. Then take a ‘wand’ or tongs and twist random sections around, keeping some on the heat for longer than others so that the curl/wave/bend varies. Use your fingers to rub the ends together-like you’re making DIY dreadlocks-this finishes the look and keeps it beachy. Once you’ve curled all the hair, flip it upside down and lightly brush through to take away the Irish-Dance-ringlet-vibe. Hair spray on and you’re done…

Because boyfriend jeans are my new skinnies

Printed red sandals with their sweet tacky gold chain details make me wish my feet tanned in Summer. They don’t but I’d wear these lush spoons anyway. With dirty rolled up boyfriend jeans. It’s weird. Skinnies have been my uniform for years now but I seem to be gravitating toward my 2 pairs of boyf jeans every morning. They just feel right right now. And they make you feel less rotund after a Christmas of indulgence. Win on all counts. x
